Does anyone know all of the speaker sizes for XJs I want to make my '97's sound system a little better and want to keep modification to a minimum. I looked in the owner's manual but couldn't find the speaker sizes, so if anyone knows them or knows where to find out it'd be great if ya'd let me know.

Tape measure works to measure what you have. PO may have made some speaker alterations. You can measure and then order from Crutchfields. They can tell you what the OEM speaker size was so you can compare your measurements with Crutchfields OEM measurements.

I don't know the size or anything but the best systems for the money for the common man(meaning not rich) is: Kenwood, Alpine, Pioneer, Jvc, Sony, Sony xplod, and then your Walmart brand and the rest. I am having a BLOND moment and can't think of the real high dollar one that only rich folk can afford, its something like JB something, i can't remember. If you can eford it get new Kenwood or Alpine. My .02.

HAHA Just put some mud tires on it and let them sing to you. I have a Sony Explode I bought at Walmart and 4 Blauplunkt spkrs I bought from Crutchfields because they come with adapter rings. I needed the adapters because the 6.5 in my ZJ mounted different then the aftermarkets.

Ok on the XJ's if you have a 96 or older you are stuck with 5.25" speakers unless you plan to modify heavely...From what I understand the newer 97+ XJ's can fit 6.5" speakers. Also crutchfield is an awesome place to get stuff you will get any needed wiring harnesses, mount kits and very detailed directions..If you keep a look out you can find sales from time to time..I got a Kenwood head unit and 4 speakers for right at $200 shipped..Could not have bought anything nearly as good a quality for that price anywhere else..

Also crutchfield.com will let you tell them your jeep model and they will tell you what speakers they sell that will fit your jeep. So even if you buy elsewhere it's a good source of information.

Google Crutchfield and see if they don't have that info online! Bet they do. Then if you have stock sized speakers you can decide what to replace them with depending upon your budget.

6.5" in the doors, 5.25" in the sound bar. Been researching this for a bit. According to various folks, you can fit 6.5" in the soundbar with some creative Dremel work. Biggest concerns for the front are mounting depth and the door glass. Some folks have said they've had to trim the sheetmetal as well for certain speakers, or to clear the contacts. Crutchfield determines fit using a couple of measurements, and if any of their numbers are incorrect, they list as a no fit. They don't actually install the speakers to see if they work or not, they just compare some numbers, so even if they say something doesn't fit without modification, it might actually fit fine. Several manufacturers make "low profile" speakers, which can avoid some of the fitment issues up front, but Crutchfield doesn't carry them.

If you're not exactly a pro installer, and just want a simple disassemble/crimp/plug in/reassemble process, go with Crutchfield. As mentioned, you'll get everything you need, and their support is pretty good too.
