Yeah def cut it but make sure it can handle.....I usually over build but that's me......you can't have it mount 3ft back, you can mount it brace and strengthen 3ft back though. What plow do you have? What kind of mounting does it have? Do you have the clivis for the plow frame? What are you gonna plow? Just for your home use? there are so many questions you need to figure out the answers to before you start.......I figured out what I needed and made it much stronger than I need. If you need help man just ask I did a similar project last winter. I put a 6.5 blade on fullsize plow frame and have hydraulics for the bigger plows got a clevis for the plow frame and made my own mount kit......
yes, you can mount it that far back...you just need to have the actual plow-frame mount be a quick-connect and have the rearward mounts come under the axle.
this puts the weight farther back on the frame and allows for heavier pushing. the downside is you lose flex while the plow frame mount is on.
on the bright side, you can do this neatly and tie it into your front bumper, and have the hydraulics and everything be quick-connect to remove for summer.

Your thinking of a brace......they use a similar setup on a toyota PU.......you can't mount the clevis behind the axle.....hence why I said bracing and strengthening

I wasn't talking about mounting the clevis behind the axle. I was talking about putting the mount for the plow frame in it's normal location, with bracing going under and then behind the axle, and making it removable (using 2 farmer pins up front, two where they reach the frame behind the axle)

wasn't trying to. was clarifying my statement.
I've seen a setup like I'm describing where everything was quickly removable for summer. the ram and light frame was attached to a custom front b umper through a couple of bolts. very nice setup...only thing I didn't like was that it was a v belt hydraulic pump instead of an electric ram.

LOL ok so we said the same thing only different.......I would be more concerned that the plow frame was flat and parallel to the frame and ground so it doesn't put unwanted stress on the frame (uni-body) and still brace the hell out of it.

Don't do that.........it will burn up your solenoids for the winch fast and you might need that winch to get you out someday why put that much wear on it for a plow? it's easy enough to make something with a quick connect.......it takes me all of 3min and 2pins to put my whole system on (pump and all) just pop the pins (on springs hard mounted to the system) hook up a few wires (soon to be 1 connector) and done.........just as easy to take off.....

And what about side to side you need the pump to do that unless you like getting out and pulling a pin and pushing the plow side to side PITA if you ask me I like the heat and radio

It's on my Yota........but if you look up "MDII plus" mount it's the newer style that just needs 2 pins not the 4 pin........http://www.plowsite.com/showthread.php?t=69760 I'm TubedYota I don't have any pix of mine but similar to Nascar24's......see the blue pins? That's all you need to pull except for the wires.........you can get the single connector for that though, I just don't have it.
