Unhappy Smoke under my hood!

My 99 Cherokee was stolen a couple of weeks ago and I dont know what they did while they had it for the night(it was found the next morning) but ever since i got it back I've had problem after problem. I changed out my water pump and thermostat yesterday then went to take it for a test drive and 500 feet down the road it died and took about 2 min for it to turn over. I popped the hood and white smoke is coming out of my engine oil cap and all around the engine. I've searched a few threads and everyone says its my CCV and I should replace all of the hardware but they also say its blow-by and that there should be oil in my air filter box, but there is no oil in my air filter. I hate to repost things that have already been posted but the symptoms that everyone has listed dont go entirely with what is going on with my jeep. Does this mean my pistons are shot or should I go about changing everything for the ccv? I'd appreciate any advice, thanks in advance.

White smoke? Are you missing any coolant? Is there any sign of water in your oil? White smoke isn't blowby, it's water vapor.
I'd change the oil and see what comes out. Then grab a compression tester and see what you are working with.

Also, it was overheating a month back and coolant was all over the place but I assumed it was coming from the weep hole on the water pump. It hasnt overheated or spilled coolant since I replaced the water pump and thermostat. At first I thought the smoke was from the coolant burning off the engine but when I popped the cap off it was coming out of there more than off of the engine block

I took a whiff of the smoke and it mostly smelled like oil but a little different than just burning oil. so to answer your question, not too sure haha :/

After driving my XJ for 10 min, when I would turn the vehicle off it would pour out about 4-6 oz of coolant, I was told my water pump and gasket were bad.

How does it run? Any unusual noises from the top or bottom?

Did you burp it though when you changed the water pump? You have to make sure you get the air out or you could f up your motor

Well, sounds to me like someone don't like you......

Am thinking that whoever stole your vehicle did something to the fuel/oil/cooling system in an act of malice or just to mess with you.

possibly urinated into the cooling system, or put water into the crankcase, or even into the fuel system.

Am presuming here that the vehicle ran fine prior to the joyride and theft.

I would do the following before driving it again;

pull the plugs , see if there is water or some other gunk on them.

drain the oil and remove oil filter. check the oil to see if there is any other contaminates in it.

drain and flush cooling system completely.

take a fuel sample from the pressure port on the fuel injector rail fitting.
there might be something funny in there. if there is water in it you will se the separation between teh fuel and water immediately.
if there is, you have to drain your fuel tank and purge the fuel system.
(P.I.T.A.)

anyway, i wish you luck, and its unfortunate people have to take things that dont belong to them.

good luck!

Thanks for all your advice everyone. I called my mechanic today and was told that its most likely a head gasket. Does that usually run around a grand to fix?

I couldnt tell where the coolant was coming from because it would be everywhere under the hood. It runs fine for 10 min then dies and has trouble starting up, then the smoke starts to pour out of the oil cap slowly. While this was happening is when my vehicle was stolen then when i got it back the smoke and dying in the middle of the street problem happened quicker than 10 min.
