Default Smoke coming from under hood along with smell of oil?

I have a 2000 Jeep Cherokee XJ and recently I just noticed that smoke coming from under the hood along with the smell of oil. Also whenever I turn on the heat I can smell oil. What does this sound like?

Sounds like you own an XJ LOL. Seriously though, probably valve cover leak dripping down on the engine somewhere.

BTW it's not an oil leak, it's "active undercoating"

Sounds like a leaky valve cover and/or gasket. You're most likely getting oil on your exhaust header. As it burns it creates smoke and you smell oil. Replace the valve cover gasket and you could go ahead and lay down the money for a new cover as well. Here's a nice one.

I think it could be a leaky flux capacitor. Maybe the oil is seeping through the pours of the engine block

I've the experience, twice with this matter. The first time, the oil leak from the automatic transmission gasket which then fell into the manifold, causing a fire. In the second case, the power steering hose rupture that spilled oil into the manifold and again cause a fire. So, be careful my friend...

I found the problem, I have a antifreeze leak in the radiator tank.

Interesting way to get smoke and the smell of burning oil. Glad you got it figured out!
