Question Slight squeaking

On my way home today i noticed a faint squeaking sound as i was driving. It stopped whenever i was breaking, but started again whenever i accelerated. I have heard this on other jeeps, but never bothered to ask since it never happened to me. Any ideas?

Does the sound come from inside or outside the car. Does the sound increase in frequency with rpm's or with tire rotation. If it is outside it could be brakes, bearings, etc. If it is inside then it's probably the plastic around the dash, get used to it, it's a Jeep.

Default Just woke up

Its coming from under my hood, and it can be heard after i start it. The squeaking increases as i accelerate. (not the sound itself but the squeak "frequency") But it can be heard at idle. Sorry if this is too vague...

Could be a pulley or a bad belt or a lose belt..If the belt is tight and doesn't look cracked and aged or super shiny then start listening to pulley...On mine my ac compressor pulley is going bad..how I found out was I squirted it with some wd40 and the squeak stopped..It's on my todo list next week..

So do you need a new pulley or something?

Usually if a pulley is squeaking it's generally a sign of a bad bushing..Me I'd check the belt first make sure it's good and also tight enough..If it is then I would start with the top pulleys and squirt em one at a time with wd40 till the squeak is gone or all have been squirted..If the squeak is still there then you have an issue elsewhere and beyond what I can think of atm... Ayways that should get you started..

Open the hood and look at the front of the motor locate the pulley (large ruber circle bout an inch thing looks like it goes everywhere) then see if it looks cracked under to much stress iff not that wiggle it with your hand and see if its to loose you should only be able to move it slightly IMPORTANT : Do this while the motor is off and has been sitting for a while on account things might be hot

My XJ had some squeaks and rattles but I found a solution. Every time I hear a new noise I hang a bell inside. Currently I run with 2 small cow bells and one sleigh bell. It drives the soon to be x-wife nuts, (that was another noise).

I had a really weird squeak once and i found out that after I had been offroading the coil spun around inside of the bucket and got offset just a little as the tail of the coil wasn't sitting exactly where it was suppose to and the coil was hitting the bumpstop tower. So i flexed it out at my house and i rotated the coil and it didnt squeak anymore.

friggin jeeps. lol.
