hello im new to this forum and im from the united kingdom in S.wales ive just bought myself a jeep cherokee 2.5 sport and it fantastic.
i took it off road once and ever since i have in 1st and reverse it shaking like mad like something is locking up and the gear stick shakes back forth when pulling off when your in reverse and turing right it finds it hard to go back and feels if something on the rear maybe locking up this is my first jeep so i havent got a clue

this happens when in 2wheel high but im thinking maybe its stuck in 4wheel high. could the clutch be damages but it does not slip or something to do with the rear diff?

Check the trans mount, and the motor mounts for damage or missing bolts.

thanks alot could it also be this u joint ive been reading up on those

It's possible, but a bad u-joint would cause a vibration that would show itself more at speed than while taking off from a start.
Open your hood and with the parking brake engaged, observe the engine when you let the clutch out slightly with trans in gear. Does it rock sideways an inordinate amount instead of stalling? That would indicate loose/damaged mounts.

ah it only happens when warm if that helps
