Default Serpintine belt help

Did a search but still just not sure how to do the belt. On a '98 4X2 Cherokee SE 4.0L, how/where do you loosen/remove the serpentine belt and re-install/tighten the new belt? Thanks in advance.

I believe 2 bolts on the power steering pump will allow you to remove and then adjust the belt.

The 2 parallel bolts in your pic "001" ........losen them, replace the belt and then tighten the right one to the correct tension and then tighten the left one to hold pump and belt in place.

correct me if im wrong, but this is how i always did it. if you see the one i circled, it goes to the tensioner. you have to loosen the bolt on the front of the pulley, not take it out, just loosen it (its sort of where the arrow is pointing). then loosen the one that is circled til you have enough slack to get the belt off.

theres the one you tighten that you circled..
then theres 2 hidden ones on the back.. one does in and out and other does a pendelum style...
That top one was so tight i couldnt get the tension one to work.. so i pulled the whole thing off..
live and learn..

then follow this for routing belt afterwards

I just went through the same scenario with my '00 XJ 4.0L with A/C.

It was actually A LOT easier to do everything with the electric cooler fan removed...

then, as stated previously in this post, loosen the actual tensioner pulley bolt and back off the adjuster bolt...

here is the belt routing FYI

thanks for all of the info on this board, hope this helps some other ppl

on a different note. i just replaced mine yesterday as well and the guy at autozone couldn't tell me the expected lifetime of the belt. any estimates??

i got the duralast brand if that makes any major difference.
