Seat belt warning chime
I have a 2001 Cherokee Sport and I discovered I could drive it while not wearing the seat belt. The light on the dash comes on when I start it but then it goes out. According to the owners manual if the seat belt isn't fastened their should be a chime and a light. Can someone confirm this? I have the FSM and can trouble shoot the circuit if I need to. I don't know if a previous owner jumped something out or I have a faulty switch. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I don't believe it will chime and give you a light after about 3-5 seconds.
Post a schematic pic if you have one.
I discovered I could drive without a seatbelt a long time ago, I thought everyone knew that?

I always wear my seatbelt. I just would like this to work the way it is supposed to. According to the FSM only the driver side belt is monitored. This seems odd but OK.
Getting back on track.... Can anyone with a late model Cherokee chime in on how the seat belt warning is supposed to work?

Mine is a 98 and I haven't heard a chime. The light is on for a few seconds then goes off. Was the same on my first 98 as well.

I don't have one now, but my 98's never stayed on while it was turned on or the battery was on. It always went away after the timer expired.

The chime warning system provides an audible
warning to the driver under the following conditions:
† Driver side seat belt is not fastened (chimes will
sound after the ignition switch is turned to the On
position for the duration of the seat belt reminder
lamp illumination or until the driver side seat belt is
buckled, whichever occurs first)
The driver seat belt switch is integral to the driver
seat belt buckle-half assembly. The switch is normally
closed, providing a ground path to the instrument
panel chime warning circuitry. When the tiphalf
of the seat belt is inserted into the seat belt
buckle, the switch opens the ground path
