Default Seafoam on 200k+ motor experience.....

I Seafoamed my new XJ recently. 208k miles. 13.9mpg before.

I veered a bit from most instructions. I bought two cans. One in fuel tank then filled it up. 1/3 can in the crankcase and drove it for the day. 1/3 can in the vac line from brake booster. 10 mins of sitting after turning motor off. 5 mins of idle then ran the piss out of it. Smoke went away quickly after getting on it. Changed oil with a 3 quart flush run after drain. Also went to synthetic.

After all of this I had put about 70 miles on it since putting the full can and filling the tank so I dumped the last 1/3 can into the gas tank.

I honestly did notice some increase in throttle response and the engine is quieter. The biggest change so far has been going from 13.9 to 15.4mpg. That is with only 1 tank of monitoring after the seafoam through but still quite nice. Ill keep monitoring it to balance out driving habits to see what happens.

Nice, I put seafoam in my other used projects and they all drive better. I recommend it.

Why will a higher mileage motor tend to get poorer gas mileage?

could be alot of reasons...
worn plugs/wires/cap
low compression
worn out o2 sensors/Map sensor
ETC.........

I've been kind of apprehensive about using it on my motor and I only have 62k lol

I think I'll try it and see if I get a mileage gain as well.

I drive everything I own like I stole it.

Finally finished that tank full and I got it up to 15.8. Gonna try to go easy this next tank and see if I can get 17. Not easy for me to go easy on it though.

Oh and no leaks from changing to Mobil 1. No telling if the rise in mpg was due to the seafoam 3 stage process or changing to synthetic or a combo of them.

Also oddly enough I lowered the air pressure from 45psi that the previous owner had them set to down to 32 and still got the MPG increase. Rides a heck of a lot better too. Has crapola offroad shocks on it so it rode like a wagon with the tires at 45 or I would have left them there for economy and not worried about wear since they will be replaced soon enough.

I still need to clean the throttle body, adjust the valves, and check the ign timing. Plugs, wires, cap, and rotor are all relatively new. PO had changed them shortly before I bought it. Valves are a tad noisy. Understandably you can't really make a 4.0 quiet but they are louder than they should be.

I wouldn't bother at 62k. Maybe run a can through the gas tank every other oil change or so but I wouldn't bother with adding it to the crank case unless you can see a lot of buildup inside the valve cover. At 62k you shouldn't need it sucked up through the vac line either. The can in the gas tank every few oil changes should take care of it. $9 every 6-9k miles isn't much.

Rockers are pedestal mount and are NON adjustable they are "bolt" on. the only change you can do is pushrod length....spend your time elsewhere.

Well I used it on a 2006 Scion xB I had before that I bought brand new, I think I used it right close to 60,000 miles and it smoked like crazy. Afterwards it felt like it idled quieter, I had better throttle response, and better mileage.

15mpg? Lucky you, driving a 5000lb XJ on 35's doesn't exactly bode too well for gas mileage. I only average around 13mpg in this:

It would smoke a lot on a brand new engine. Almost all of the smoke is the seafoam itself. Nice that you got those results so early in the car's life. I had one of the first xBs but only put 35k on it before the lease was up. I think I was doing like 31mpg going easy on it. Bought it out and resold it for profit. My mom bought the 2g xB and loves it. I personally hate the 2g. 26mpg on the highway and the interior is horrid. She loves it though. Still have the Scion?

I sold it about a year ago, I was accumulating too many vehicles lol. The Jeep that I just got is just a tow vehicle for me and gf to transport our bikes to different tracks around FL and maybe further one day.

I don't like the newer generation xB's either. I do miss the roomy reliable and economic aspects of the xB though! If insuring so many vehicles wasn't so much I'd still have it as a daily driver definitely.
