really useful info, thanks
Really useful info, thanks. As it happens no oil probs with my Cherokee XJ year 2000 but plenty with my 2002 BMW 318csi. I am now putting 15W-50 Mobil syn into it.... but hey that's another story.

Check the dipstick and see for yourself if it dirties abnormally fast. You won't really be able to tell unless you do that on a regular basis and know your engine's regular behaviour.
If you have a really dirty engine keep an eye on your oil pressure. This is where having a properly functioning sending unit and gauge is a huge help. As the oil filter clogs, you'll see pressure decrease as it fills up with crap, until eventually the bypass valve opens and pressure shoots back up again. (This assumes you run a good filter in the first place.) Remember it's a very slow clean, this isn't like dumping in a solvent that will dislodge crap.
Unless you're trying to bring back to life an engine with years of baked-on sludge I don't condone extremely short oil change intervals. Changing the oil TOO frequently can actually cause damage as the detergents will attack the protective films of anti-wear materials that have formed on parts.
If your engine is pretty filthy I'd change the filter within the first thousand miles. Stick with a quality built unit with good functioning bypass and anti-drain back valves.

Got some new stuff if you don't mind searching and finding out.
Looks like the delo 400le is syn tech????
Then we got the 400xle which a half blend of syn amd conv. like the T5
And this is all synthetic.
My question is for the delo 400le, is it still the same as before when you did this research on it? I'm still fairly set on using it as you have mentioned it was your favorite one with plenty of boron and such but at a fairly cheap price

might be a dumb question
but what is everyones opinion on going from conventional to synthetic
rumors on other forums say pick one and stick with it
don't switch back and forth
your thoughts, does it matter?
any harm done if you do?

In the last yr I've switched 3 vehicles (XJ,Blazer,Durango) over to T6. Before this all had nothing but conventional oil through them. All have between 140k and 160k. All doing fine.

The ISOSYN 15w40 on the top right is the numbers I used. I think it's considered a Group III+ oil. It's very well refined, but not a synthetic.
Switch your oil however you want within the correct viscosity ranges. Not all engines are the same, some will be very grumpy on certain additive packages so find one your Jeep likes and just run it.
