Reverse Caliper Mod
Alright,
Thought I would share this giant headache with you all. I have an 87 XJ and since I got it, the brake pedal would go to the floor with little resistance. I replace the booster and the master cyl. Flushed and bled more times than I could count. I even replaced all soft lines with stainless braided lines.
Turns out the calipers were installed on the wrong sides. I can't believe it. I really hope the same person/people haven't worked on the engine or trans. I know the transfer case was bone dry and there was silicone chunks everywhere inside.
Anyway, they are reversible in case you didn't know and there will be no pressure in your brake system when they are installed on the wrong side. You want the brake line to come in the top and the bleeder valve to be on top as well.
Hope this saves someone the time and trouble I went through...

I suppose upside down calipers would APPEAR to bleed correctly as the air would get trapped and all you would see is fluid coming out the bleed tube.

Bleeders should always be at the high point of a cylinder/caliper for bleeding. In some rare cases the caliper has to be removed to bleed because of design.
