Default Replacing pinion seal question

Stupid question --

My front pinion seal (on a D30) is leaking, and I'm going to replace it. Do I have to drain the gear oil before I remove the old one?

What's in there is new so there's no reason to drain it if I don't have to.

Thanks.

There is nothing that says you have to drain it to change the seal,if it drains some oil out just replace it.
