Replacing my current 95 XJ
Hi,
Long time lurker on these boards, very informative.
I have a 95 Cherokee Sport with 152000 KM's (not miles)
I want to buy another XJ because this vehicle has been very reliable and useful. My wife was the original owner and its been my main vehicle now for a couple of years. We use it mainly to pull a boat, go camping and winter use up here in Canada.
Here is a picture:
After searching for another XJ I came across this ad:
1994 Jeep Cherokee Sport
-Only 100000 kms!
- 4 new wheels,
-looks and smells like new.
-It is in top shape.
-Never winter driven. Only highway kilometers.
• Climate Control • Cruise Control, Power Steering
Safety:
• Air Bags • Fog Lights • Traction Control
Windows:
• Rear Window Wiper • Tinted Glass
Other:
• Roof Rack • Tow Package
After emailing the OO, and asking some more questions, he states:
"Yes i am the original owner and nothing has been replaced except the radio, it is all original. And it is one of a kind"
He also says that it has a V6 engine. He stated that it is in winter storage and not easily accessible, so I assume its somewhere in a warehouse. He's getting rid of it because his family has outgrown it. I haven't been able to get more pictures because its obviously not close to where he lives but he has offered to give me the address of where it is so I can go look at it. Only thing is that he lives 500KM's away.
My questions are:
1) Did the XJ's come with V6 engines? I thought they were only inline 6's
2) He's asking 6K Canadian firm. Does this seem fair?
3) If it does come with a V6, how does that rate to the inline 6? Better, worse, same?
thanks

only v6 an xj came with was in 84-86
it would be about 4700 usd... that is steep for around here in eastern washington, just look around and see what xjs of the same year are going for around your area

x2 that price is way too steep. I just traded my 96 cavalier for a 96 xj with 94k miles on it. Look around, especially if you are willing to drive that far.

6k Canadian is what like 4500 to 5000 American i think that is a little steep i think like 2500 to 3500 Canadian is a better price. my Numbers might be off a little i have not checked recently. but about 1500 to 2500 American is about where it should be at

Thanks for everyone's replies!
What I'm hearing is that the price is too high. I tend to agree, but does the fact that it only has 100000 KM's (62000 miles) mean anything?
I've searched all of Ontario and its hard to find XJ's of that year range (94-96) with reasonable mileage. To me, although I'd like another XJ, it doesn't make any sense to buy a newer or older XJ UNLESS it has less mileage than my current one (152000KM's)

A one owner with 60k? Its worth more than $2500. That low of mileage and being a one owner is hard to find and you will pay a little more for it. I would say around $4k US is reasonable, maybe a little less.
Dont know about all those decals, steering wheel cover, and seat belt covers (Type R Racing on a Jeep = Rad!). Need to go ASAP. He should take $100 off just having them on there......

I didn't this before my last post. my XJ has 160,000 and counting. Runs good with no major problems. Just keep your current Jeep. If it aint broke, dont fix it.

Im pretty sure they didn't put the SRS airbag system in XJ's till about 1995. Thing looks pretty clean, just need to peel off the silly looking graphics. He's a little high on the price, but it looks like it has probably been driven by a little old lady.
