To make this even more worth it it took me 45 minutes tops, unscrew the dash bezel unscrew the gauge cluster, carefully remove the wiring harness, twist and pull the bulb holders and replace bulbs then do it all in reverse. All in all an hour of time and maybe 20 bucks tops.

thx

iu used the single diode 194 bulbs pretty sure theyre the 90 degree 194 in the automotive lighting section, color wise ive bought red green blue and white from them always fast shipping cheap and havent had to replace a single one on any of the 3 vehicles ive done swaps for yet. Pretty sure they have an amber and a few other colors too, just take a look. Oh and p.s. to the OP sorry for jacking your thread.

How did you get the bulbs out of the dash? The metal gauge plates are in the way... Is there a trick or does the needles pop off? NEVERMIND LOL Just take the damn thing out duh

Default replacing instrument cluster bulbs

appears a few bulbs are out in instrument cluster ( I found bulb numbers). Can anyone provide fairly detailed instructions on removal of instrument cluster 2001 Cherokee?

Go on youtube and look up Azzy Designs works, Its someone that I believe is on here that makes new clusters but he has an instructional video that if i remember includes how to take the dash out. I dont think it's that hard, my brother and I got radios with a bluetooth mic that we put behind the steering wheel under the rubber, and we pretty much just went for it and were able to either get the clips free, or find another screw that is holding it in. The column where the radio and HVAC controls are comes off first, then i think there are two screws under there that hold the top of the dash on and maybe a few under the steering wheel, so you have to take off the plastic and metal plate under the steering wheel. The only thing I dont know how to do is get the headlight **** off, we didnt have to get it off to snake the wire through. Then once the dash is off, there are four screws holding the cluster and you should be able to pull it right out. There are two sets of pins that are in the back of the cluster so as long as it comes out straight they shouldnt get messed up. From there i think you might be able to see the backs of the bulbs and im pretty sure they twist in and out. DONT take off the needles!!! everything should be accessible from the back. If you take off the needles it will be VERY tough to get them back to the correct measurements.(Azzy's video talks about taking a picture before you take the needles off so you can realign them but for this you shouldnt have to do this.) I never did this myself but have gone through so many of the threads on here about this. A lot of them dont really put all the steps together so I sorta just put a lot of what people said into what I think is right. Will be doing this mod when spring comes along. Let me know how it goes!

I took the 4 screws out but cluster only pulls out like an inch or less. Do I need to disconnect wiring also or is there enough slack to pull it out? I'm afraid to pull too hard. I can't fit my big head to see what's being pulled on but there is significant resistance.

Never mind. Just watched a video and the cluster just plugs in when it's placed in the dash. Just need to pull a little harder I guess.

I have 1997 Jeep Grand limited 5.2 lit quadratrac with 160K miles and OH so sweet ! I am a 66 year old past fleet mechanic and do almost all my work on it. I need to change my cluster bulbs to LED and keep the green. My ABS bulb is burned out and figure to just change all. Can someone tell me what the bulb #s are now and the crossover's are to LED. Also how many there is to replace of each so i will have plenty when i take it apart. Maybe a place to go to get best price for Quality bulbs, for there seems to be several on the market. thank you "Traceace" USMC Semper Fi !!

194 bulbs are what you need. Just keep in mind LED's only light up one way, so if you install the bulbs and they don't work, just pull it out, turn the base 180 degrees, and reinstall. Get your bulbs here:

Thought all I needed to do was go to local auto parts store and get new bulbs...not. When trying to get the bulb out of the socket I tore the rubber coating off of the bulb. All the bulbs that I found (194 #) does not mention the rubber coating. Not really wanting to go LEDs, just want OEMs with the coating or a colored bulb. Can someone help me?

hey matt im not sure if you are going to see this or not but do you know what size the smalled bulbs are in the older cluster. I have one pulled from a 89 or 90. its a mechanical one. All the main lights bulbs are the 194 size but on the far left of the cluster when loooking at it as if it was in the vehicle there is a black box that shows your check engine light etc. do you happen to know what bulb size that is.

Question Sizes

Are the bulbs to be replaced a t5 mini bulb or 194/t10 bulbs? I am doing it to my 98 jeep cherokee and I want to do all my dash lights including high beam and turn signal dash bulbs. Superbrightleds said that the turn and high beam dash bulbs are 194. Is that correct? Can anyone confirm?
