Default replacing headlight switch '94 Cherokee

I've done a lot of my own repairs and mods on my '94 XJ but one thing I have never even looked at is the headlight switch. Well, today mine crapped out on me. I was in town and it's raining so I pulled the switch and the dash light and parking lights came on but no headlights. I had just hopped out to go into a store that the headlights, both of them were on when I shut them off before getting out. I could see the reflection in the window of the store. When I got back in, no headlights and they have not worked since. Thankfully I have aux driving lights that I installed about a month ago.

I stopped by AutoZone and got a new switch and I'm going to put it in tomorrow morning. I'd love to hear from anyone who has put one of these switches in. How big of a pain is this? Any gotchas? Any advice at all that will help with this?

Thanks yall.

I did mine about 3mo ago. It's really tough to get your hands up in there. I chose the route of doing it without taking the plastic dash part off so I had to finagle my hands up behind the dash and work almost blind. I actually used a camera to take a picture of what I was working with to get an idea. It's pretty easy though, I could do it in about 10min now. Just take the pull switch out, then there is this little silver button on the switch itself that you need to press to release the switch from the dash, after that just unplug it and replace.

OK. I had heard before that this was one of the biggest pains to do on an XJ. Maybe I was just listening to someone who really had a hard time.

I'm diving into it in the morning so maybe mine will go easy. Here's hoping.

Does the Headlight switch also work as the headlight reminder buzzer???

Ive never had a buzzer and have left my light on multiple times. Its illegal to drive in the rain without lights in ohio so ive left them on during the day when i cant see them really.

It's not the hardest thing I've ever done and after its over you'll see it's all really simple. If I took yoga I probably would of had an easier time, haha. Just be patient and take your time.

You weren't kidding about the Yoga!!!

I did it this morning. Took about 40 minutes. Not the worst job I've ever done on the old XJ but it wasn't the easiest either. The real pain in the butt was the fact that the stupid wiring harnass isn't long enough to extend below the dash after you get the switch out. If the wires were just 6 inches longer this would have been a ridiculously simple job.

But I got it done and I have headlights again. It's all good.
