Default Renix Multi-Meter Troubleshooting???

I keep hearing about this multi meter fixing anything on a Renix engine thing. Where is the info on what to measure, when, and what it should read? I know it has to be out there. I would love to be able to fix my Reanix with my Harbor Freight multi meter. Is there a manual or pdf or something? Thanks for the hookup!!! B.T.W. I had to grab this from another thread, I thought it might get more traffic here! PEACE OUT JEEPHEADS!!!

If you can find a FSM electrical troubleshooting manual it will go a LONG way to helping you also. Knowing the shape and location of every electrical connector and the color of every wire on the Jeep makes a HUGE difference...

If lunghd doesn't have what you need and it is in fact Renix related I can look it up in my FSM for you just let me know. But to be entirely honest I learned more Renix stuff by reading the articles that lunghd has written than all the FSM has had to teach me. Good luck.

Lunghd has some great tips.
http://www.lunghd.com/Tech_Articles/...iagnostics.htm

This one should also be bookmarked and read thoroughly (don't let the thread title fool you, it covers more than high idle):
http://www.naxja.org/forum/showthread.php?t=905849

I regularly refer to both of these AND the factory service manual when running diagnostics on my Renix.

Another great site for Renix info is: http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/...ec=group&slk=1

This one is run by Jon Kelly (aka 5-90 on NAXJA) and is very, very informative on all Renix related issues. You must sign up on the Yahoo one, but I will highly recommend it.

HTH.

I thought I knew a lot of Renix sites but you guys rock. I love the Renix and it's simplicity. Much easier to fix than a carburated engine. I have re-built too many carburetors and I prefer Renix's simplicity over those carbs and points things we used to drive. Glad that we have moved on. But the newer stuff that requires a computer and scan tools to tell you what is bad. They think that no one is smart enough to figure out how to work on something now a days without an arsenal of electronics.
I keep getting up on that darned soap box, climbing down now, again.

The only complaint I have about Renix is the poor design of the OEM 2 piece injectors. I have since resolved that issue by replacing mine with the better designed, less expensive Ford 19lb injectors. My next major project is to tackle the replacement of ALL the vacuum lines. I'm considering replacing the majority of them with steel lines, but haven't decided if it's worth the hassle.

I'm right there with you on the ease of diagnosis (once you know what to look for). Much better than some scan tool/computer that is wrong more often than not.

The injectors that you refer to, are they a direct replacement for the Renix ones? Plug right in??

On the vacuum lines use aluminum instead of steel. Much easier to get in the right form and will be a non issue for rust. Cheaper than steel brake line and can be had at many A/C shops for next to nothing. I stopped a guy on the street that was doing some A/C work down the road from me and asked him and he gave me a short roll of about twelve feet. I stopped by and left him a twelve pack of his favorite beverage. In this case Diet Pepsi. But Bud would have been OK too. His choice not mine. I think I now have about a third of what I need to do just the underhood stuff.
Already changed to the 19 pound FoMoCo injectors when I changed engines about 2 years ago. Old ones were just worn out.
I also want to replace the heater hose jungle on the passenger side of the engine with 1/2"copper pipe. Saw that on Jon Kelley's site and thought it was a good way to clean up that side of the engine.

Sure do. They are from a regular 5.0L Mustang. Don't waste your money on the 23# ones. The 19# ones are just fine for our 4.0L Jeeps.

An arguement for the 23# injectors would be the additional fuel would be in the right neighborhood for using E-85....

And lord know that I love the work that John has done, sometimes though he finds a $20 solution to a $2 problem....

I guess I wasn't clear.. I wasn't suggesting using the FSM over some of the other things out there. I meant I use it as an addition to the other stuff out there. I have all kinds of pages from the net printed and stuffed into the relevant sections on my FSM.
