Default Renix brake light switch question

Renix brake light switch question. Posting for a friend with an 88. Johnny called me this AM and said his brake lights don't come on unless he presses really hard on the pedal. I told him to look for something loose, and that the white switch is for stopping TC lock-up.

This jibes with my understanding of the thing, why does harder do it?..any insight here?

I've gone through three switches, they suck.

NAPA has been the best so far.

Tell him to replace it.

Thanks Bro...sort of waiting for Pete to "weigh in", as well. What I mean is I'd thought just releasing pressure with through is what does it. Why does "harder" work ? Yes, X2 on Napa parts. Lots come off the same line, then are tested and sent here or there. Napa seems to get better parts.

It really should go bad unless it has a corrosion, did a booster swap and didn't grind it flat enough or too much, or the nylon bushing busted or the screw is too tight. Or just a wiring issue and not creating a good contact. Since its looking to complete the circuit and when released the contact slides forward lights come on.

It's not a plunger. It's kind of a rocking pivoting switch. A good look at it and how it works will be apparent. It could have some wear.

OK, thanks all. Guess I'll tell him to go to Napa and replace it. The " rocking pivoting " , salsa switch.

On my 90 xj I don't have abs. And transmission lock PO. I guess deleted that stuff. Had to visit local JY. To finally get my switch to work.
Just a pic of what it looks like now.

I upgraded my switch to newer style plunger switch. I purchased a 1993 pedal assemble with the factory push in switch bracket. Mines 5 speed so I switched the pedals over to 1993 pedal housing which are exactly the same just pedal from automatic and stick are different sizes. I cut the factory renix plug for the switch in half and stuck one end on each side of new switch. If this is done at same time as booster upgrade it will eliminate the drilling and cutting of flat spot on new booster rod.

This assembly has the bracket all ready. A universal switch could easily be stuck in and used if needed.
