Default Renix 4.0L Cherokee & Accel Tune-Up Kit

Hey fellas,

The title pretty much describes my question. Does the Accel Tune-up kit work for the older Renix era 4.0L's? I'm also interested in their "blaster" coil.

These are the parts I'm looking at:

Tune-up Kit Tune-up Kit

Blaster COIL Blaster COIL

Basically, I'm looking to go down Cruiser54's Renix tips list and will be getting the NAPA grounds tomorrow and I know that my rotor, dist. cap, and wires probably haven't been changed in a very long time, if ever. I have changed the plugs though. I want to replace these tune-up parts with some quality items and I know Accel makes some quality parts.

Thanks kindly!

S/F,

-Matt

I think you're stuck with OEM type replacements. Your coil needs to look like this one:

You could call MSD tech support to see if they make anything but I kinda doubt it.

It would depend on the price. Did you check RockAuto? Cap, Rotor, wires if OEM quality should be fine. Most of us Renix guys use Champion Copper plugs believe it or not. Some use NGK.

Ive used Accel b4 on muscle cars to me there more name than quality. On my jeep only as last resort. Msd much better product and they do not show Renix style coils. Deff champion plugs here all the way down to my weed blower.

Unfortunately we do not manufacture a replacement distributor for this application in it's EFI form. The good news is a 6A would work and as long as your not submerging the box in water and mud. Put the box in a good location where water wont be an issue and go have some fun. This installation will require that you seperate the coil from the igniter to wire it in correctly. If you use our PN 8813 harness this will make the installation alot simpler. As stated previously by Osron Yancey the 4.0L made its debut in '87 so I'm making my recommendations based off of an '87. The Jeep 4.0L from the factory is an even fire motor. We have plenty of customers that run this ignition on thier jeeps with no issues. If the motor was an odd-fire You would need to run our Digital 6 as that unit has provisions for an odd fire motor in the cylinder select (but not to get off topic) you will be fine with the 6a.

Thanks,

Champion plugs. I know they're the cheap ones. . But they work and the engine loves them. Expensive ones fail quick in this.

NGKs are not expensive. They were used in 2000 and 2001 because the Champions wouldn't hold up to the waste-fire ignition.....

Thanks everyone!

I've got the NAPA premium cap & rotor and Taylor wires in my cart(s) - as far as I can tell NAPA doesn't sell/list on their site the Taylor wires. I replaced the spark plugs when I got the Waggie, about 7k miles ago, so I can't justify replacing them already. I forget what they are, but I'm generally partial to NGK, so my guess is NGK. I'll check later and verify.

So with regards to the coil - I don't see any sense in changing it out right now since I'm not having any troubles, especially since the replacement is likely to be aftermarket and not as good. That said, is there a *preferred* aftermarket brand that the Renix-fiends prefer?

You're good to go. That Renix coil will knock your "you know what" in the dirt.....
