Default removing vacuum lock on D30

I am having trouble locking the front axle on my 89 D30. I would like to remove the vacuum system all together. I know about Posi and Perma lok. Does anyone have a homemade design to eliminate this set up or something similar to the posi perma?

you can pull the actuator out and drill a hole threw the shift fork and put a bolt in to hold the collar in the locked position all the time.

I disassembled the shift motor on my 91 because it would engage in 4wd and locked the shift collar in place with some washers. It was fairly easy to do and only took about 30 minutes (10 minutes of that was trying the find the c-clip that went flying when it popped off).

It might not have been so hard to find if my garage didn't look like a trailer park after a tornado.
