Default Remanufactured engine questions?

When purchasing a long block (for XJ) What parts will I need to swap over?
Does anyone have a list or link to a thread that is XJ/Jeep spacific?
Ive been searching but curiously I dont seem to be coming up with some kind of list?

I Figure:

Starter
Power steering pump
Oil filter adapter
Alternator
Water pump
Oil pump?
fan and clutch
Valve cover
AC Compressor
Distributor
Intake/Exaust manifold
Fuel Injectors
Fuel rail

Also, I am looking at link for a remanufactured engine and It says:
  • Crank castings: 453 and 767
  • Pilot hole in crank is 7/8" deep
  • Be careful check crank number
Do I need to be concerned with this?

Thanks.

As far as what needs to be swapped over, if it can be removed, it needs swapped. Harmonic balancer and oil pan are the biggest things I see missing on your list, but there's likely more. Best to put the engines side by side and start swapping parts.

My plan is to make a master list of all the parts that need swapped and number them and then correlate that number to a list on paper also write down what size nut/bolts are needed for each accessory/part.
Some parts like the alternator I plan on replacing.

I am also going to make a list of Electrical connections and other connections like the transmission cooler lines, radiator hoses Etc.. and use that list if I go ahead with a swap.

Harmonic balancer, Oil pan..... Added

Dont forget your gaskets! If you somehow get a 00/01 engine block might want to get a new head for it.

OP, I would pull your engine and get the numbers from the block and head to know what you are working with before you order. Proper, Prior, Planning.

Man, the 00-01' head issues are so over exaggerated here.

Any known issue with any vehicle is always blown up to the point where every vehicle is already beyond repair.

The company I plan on buying from tells the buyer in advance what # head they are getting.

Hmmmmm... That doesn`t sound right.

Just a couple of comments first you really should have all the information (numbers) off of your engine "Before Ordering" and the crank question they asked about.

As far as the head that should not be an issue with his year yr. model and casting numbers they supply, but ask questions anyway beforehand.

Disassembly this is something I have done in the past on cars use your phone camera to take photos of every step you do. Then place each fastener/bracket in a ziplock bag and write on it with a marker what it is for. Do this for every piece that comes off of the engine.

Also take photos of every electrical connection that has to be disconnected when you pull the engine and tag the wires with something tape wire ties and tag whatever. You get the picture this way you have the entire deal at your finger tips no guessing.

This is a great time to clean the engine compartment really good and clean to bare metal all grounds retighten and coat with rust preventive then paint.

Good Luck on your swap!
