So my rear windshield wiper stopped a while back and its just now nice enough to do something about it. when i flip the swith to trun it on nothing happens sometimes it would go every few minutes but now it does nothing. Is it the motor or is it something else?

I DO! Mine went out a couple years ago, just like you described. It would work intermittently, sometimes making the full sweeping pass, sometimes stopping halfway. Finally, it completely crapped out on me, and didn't respond to the switch being flipped on at all.
Here's what I did. After getting some ridiculous $250 replacement quote from a local shop, I decided to dive into the problem head first myself. Glad I did, since the repair was simple. I found a replacement rear wiper motor for my make/model on Ebay. I believe I found one for around $60. Once I received it in the mail, I tackled the swap out. It was fairly easy, just remove what screws you see holding the plastic trim to the back hatch. Once those are all removed, you'll gently pull off the trim, popping the plastic trim plugs out one by one (since that's all that is remaining holding the trim to the hatch). That should come off without too much issue. After that, the rear wiper motor will be visible and accessible. All you need to do now unhook the wiper arm from the outside, then unplug the harness from the motor, unbolt the two bolts holding it in place, and swap it out. From there, plug back in the harness, and everything goes back together the way you took it apart. Good luck!

No problem! I was a bit timid to start, as I usually don't tear my truck apart without someone there who knows what they're doing, but this turned out to be a lot easier than even I expected. The scariest part is yanking the big trim piece off after you've removed all the screws.
Good luck.
Good luck.
