rear main seal
OK I've read and read and read. Tried it all as well and nothing is making this thing budge. The lower seal in the bearing cap basically was welded in. I had to basically cut it out. Now with this leak it did look like the main part was coming from the lower seal. So am I wrong for just doing the lower seal?

It would have been best to do it all. The nice apart about a 2 piece rear main in not having to pull the Trans to replace it. That being said, did you verify your leak was from the seal? Common areas are the VC gasket and the oil filter adapter housing. These motors sit angled back so oil will mainly run to the back and down, causing what looks like a rear main leak.

I have never seen one stuck that badly.....................
I've done it on (3) different 4.0 Jeeps, and with the correct sized punch, the top comes right out?
The bottoms just peeled right out for me.
Yours might have got super hot at some point?
What kind of miles do you have on yours?
