Rear Diff Issues for a Newb
I am currently changing the rear diff fluid for the first time in my new (old) 2001 Cherokee I just bought. Based on recommendations on the site I picked up some Lucas Oil 85-140 gear lube since once in awhile I will be towing and offroading. Also, I'm a bit confused on the differential additive. Based on my diff (I know the pictures don't show it too well) it looks like I have limited slip so I need to add something.
The only thing I've found at stores around me is Trans-X additive. They do mention some jeep drive trains that you shouldn't use it on but I think they're talking about the trans and transfer case since I've read you should not use a GL-5 oil in there due to the brass syncros, but is it ok on the rear diff? I can check the bottle later to find out exactly what it said not to use the additive on.

Just head over to your parts shop like napa and they should have it on their computer as to what additive you need...Also depends on the oil...some synthetic oils come with the needed additive..

I will try to rotate and get some better pictures tonight or tomorrow, thanks for the help so far. From the pictures I've seen posted it seems as long as there are gears in the carrier it is probably a LSD but I will get those pics.
Thanks
Thanks

Gears are just spider gears and it is then an open diff. If it has a stack of clutches instead it s a LSD diff. Everyone who is asking for a different pic is trying to see past the casting of the carrier.

Hey guys, thanks again for the help, I took some better pictures of the diff and it definitely looks like I have an open diff, also, I got off my lazy butt and jacked up the rear end and just did the tire spinning trick, they spin in opposite directions, looks like I'm a good candidate for a locker in the rear. Not sure if they make a good one for the 8.25, I won't do any extreme off-roading, just fire trails, camping, hunting, fishing, some light mudding stuff like that after I get my lift.

Anyone know if Aussie ever released their new 8.25 locker yet? It was on their web site but no add to basket option as of a couple months back. They were claiming there was a manufacturers glitch and that it would be on shelves by Thanksgiving. I admit I have not followed it since that time.
Aussie makes a great lunchbox locker and since Thanksgiving is so close I would opt to wait and see if were my 8.25 diff.
