Default Rear bumper removal 2000

Don't know if I am posting this question in the right place or not but here goes, I have a 2000 Cherokee Classic that I have a hitch for. It appears the best way to install the hitch, is to remove the bumper. The hitch install guide says there are 4 bolts per side. I can find two on the bumper, thats it, a couple on the molded "extensions" that wrap around to the wheel wells. Where are the others? A pic or two would would help a lot.

You shoudn't need to remove the bumper - in all liklihood all the bolts will be rusted and it will be a real PITA anyway. You can access the open ends of the chassis members fine, to get the bolts into position with the bumper in place.

I will look at it again, this particular hitch uses u bolts, and plates to attach the unit from inside the frame members. Have one existing hole I can use have to drill the other, but the factory weldnut strip is in the way on the pasenger side, if I had another weldnut strip for the drivers side it would be a better deal, but with a different hitch.

Do you have a hitch made for your XJ or is it actually for something else?

I just put one of today and had the same issue. there was a nut strip on the passenger side that didn't let me feed bolts behind the bumper and through the uni-body. so I ended up taking the rear bumper off and it was a pain. Mines a 99 and the end caps come off with screws on the mud flaps out, a 1/4" bolt under the mud flap, and a 10mm bolt at the back of the end cap. Then you just push the caps back towards the back of the jeep and it comes right off. after that there are two 15mm bolts under the bumper and two 15mm bolts that you get at from the open sides of the bumper. But those bolts have some extremely high strength locktite on them from the factory. So I ended up taking the 8 15mm bolts off of the brackets that hold the bumper on. From there I had to cut the uni body access hole bigger so I could feed the bolts through to hold up the receiver.
Didn't mean to write you a book but I literally just did this a couple hours ago and had a ton of trouble with it. The receiver I bought was specifically made for the Cherokee and it did actually fit fine when I got through all of the trouble with the bolts.
I didn't think to take any pictures while I was doing it but I hope this helps.

We have a hitch on the wife's Tahoe, the hitch for the Cherokee, was for a backup, in case she had the Tahoe, and I needed to haul the trailer.
Guess the hitch goes back tuday, Not worth the trouble to install it on the Cherokee.
Thanks for all your help guys.
