I'm in Vancouver BC. My 98 has a few visible paint spots where the undercoating came off, it still looks as good as new.
My 88 is starting to show a few rust spots under the doors.
Not fair, I know.

This. I saw one once in Knoxville and it dropped my jaw. It merged into traffic with black smoke pouring from the tail pipe and I thought "no way!" I got closer and sure enough, factory diesel. The guy had the biggest smile on his face.

Though not as rare as with the 2.5 diesel. I think some of the 2.1L Renaults were actually sold here near the start of the production run. All of the 2.5L VM Motoris had to be imported.
Saw one for sale last year on Kijiji I think. I think it was a 2000 or 2001, 2.5 TD, AX-15, 4 door, 4x4, power options, and it was even LHD.

not thread jacking here but its kinda the same topic. I live in texas so obviously the south. I feel like when I was searching for an xj before I found my gem of an 88 renix 4litre 4x4(haha) there where WAY more xj's in the north? I luckily found mine and its lived its life in the south so rust free but I remember looking at the state it was for sale in online and it was 75% of the time in the north east...

There is a thread about rare options and parts.
Any XJ or MJ with the 2.1 diesel is rare.
I'd say sun and moon visors.
XJ Wagoneers in general are rare.
MJ Comanches are hard to find in the north.
Fluid sentinel system is a rare find.
Spare tire sub box is a rare find.
There is more but I can't think of anything.

In that other thread I mentioned the OEM spare tire carrier. I have only seen 1 in person on someone's XJ in their driveway. Never seen 1 in a junkyard.
I have an OEM brush guard on my XJ. I wouldn't say its rare since they come up fairly often. But I'm 1 of a few people in my area with it.

Xj'sin general are getting harder to find in my area , rust seems to claim them at an alarming rate. But as mentioned many times before the newest xj is now 12 yrs old. 2 door models are hard to find here that are in any kind of useable condition. I recently found a 91 2dr 5sp 4x4 that was in decent codition (4hrs away). My brother has the same combo in a 1998. I think we are the only 2 in the area.
