you can get away with a 2 in bb for awhile but it will wear your stock components(shocks, trackbar bushings etc) a little faster.

2 inches is pushing your stock shocks if you plan on wheeling

3 inches you dont have to do much, your gonna want longer shocks at 3 inches. Install of a 3 inch lift is about 6 hours...depending on the condition of your jeep.
