Default Dash kit question

I just ordered a dash kit from amazon, it said 96-2001 on the description but when I recieved it, it says 97-01...I have a 1996 cherokee classic. Would this work? or would I have to return it and buy another? Thanks!

lol... I just figured it out the hard way...going to just go to walmart and pick up a dash kit there. also is the wiring harness different also? I couldn't find a way to connect them...

Harness -
Amazon.com: Stereo Wire Harness Jeep Grand Cherokee 96 97 98 (car radio wiring installation parts): Electronics Amazon.com: Stereo Wire Harness Jeep Grand Cherokee 96 97 98 (car radio wiring installation parts): Electronics
Dash Kit -
Amazon.com: Stereo Install Dash Kit Jeep Grand Cherokee 96 97 98 (car radio wiring installation parts): Electronics Amazon.com: Stereo Install Dash Kit Jeep Grand Cherokee 96 97 98 (car radio wiring installation parts): Electronics

Dash kit was different from the picture...On the package itself, it said only 97-01 jeeps.

The links say they are to a Grand Cherokee, not that that matters bc they should be universal. But you will need the one for a pre 96. I was thinking of a different type of "dash kit" not one for the stereo. haha

is it a single din stereo?? In the older style 96 and under dash a single din stereo will fit almost perfect without the dash kit. Just saying though.

yup....thinking about just going that route. How should I secure the stereo in if I did it this way? I work in the ghetto...would suck to have my whole system stolen

Well you might be able to figure out a way to lock it but I dont see how a dash kit would keep people from steeling it. Once the dash is back on the screws for the stereo are under it and the dash has to be removed to take it out. You could always get a head unit with a removable faceplate and just take it off when you leave the vehicle. Thats what I do.
