Default Power Windows Question

Hey all I'm new to the Jeep community. Anyways my girlfriend and I just purchased a 2000 Jeep Cherokee Sport last week and we are having some difficulties with the power windows. At times the windows will work fine and at others (like today) none of the windows work at all. I checked the obvious and the fuse is fine. I noticed the other day that while the door is open none of the windows work but when they're closed they work now nothing... Has anyone else had any similar problems with their power windows and if so could someone shed some light on this agrivating issue? Thanks, Rick

Thanks for responding Kyle. The main switch doesn't work at all and neither does the rest of the windows when they aren't working and when they are working the green indicator lights on the switch panel are on but go way dim when you attempt to use. I know that that main switch panel operates the other windows but can you tell me if that main switch panel is bad will that disable the other windows and each door switch?

Thanks, Rick

take apart the driver door panel and take off both of the plugs connected to the driver door switch assembly. clean everything up and re assemble making sure both of those plugs are very tight. that should fix your problem.

Hey Kyle would you suggest using some of that spray contact cleaner on the window control panel contacts?

Thanks, Rick

i will tell you what i used.

get some of that compressed air in a can from a computer store and spray down everything in and around that switch panel. once that is done use some die-electric grease on the contacts and put the plugs back in. make sure that you press hard, then test.

just wondering how this worked out for u? I have a similar problem. I own a 94 country, and the power windows dont work at all. The power locks work though. I took out the panel and played around with plugs but nothing.

Also the wiring between the door has two wires cut, a goldish wire, and a black wire, any idea what these are? its been cut professionally and i was told that the power window problem had previously been fixed, but there is no tape on the end of the wires which concerns me.

Thanks

It has been cut professionally?

Go take apart the door and figure out where those wires are leading to (im guessing window switches and or child safety lock.

I've seen this problem several times and the wires is the problem. The wires that go from the body into the door get bent everytime you open/close the door and eventually break. Pull the harness out of the door and into the body and open the harness. fix any/all broken wires and solder all connections. Put it all back together and your good to go!
