I found out the other day that if the window doesn't work, if the passenger holds the button while I hit the unlock/lock window button then it unlocks. If I don't have a passenger then I don't have to worry about them not being able to roll down the window, so I guess it's a win/win!

RE: Power window switch
Hi everyone,
I'm new to this forum. From what I've read so far, I like this one.
I have 3 XJ's. A 1991 w/3.5" lift, a 1993 w/2" BB, and a 1994 w/3.5".
All are automatics & 4 - doors.
I was reading some of problems ya'll are having with power windows.
I have a thread that may be of some help.
Try this link:
www.jeepforum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=288655&highlight=power+w
Might be easier to just type it in to your browser and click enter.
I take no credit for this fix, but it worked for my 1993 XJ.
Just my 2 cents,
Mac

Fixed it!!
So i tried the link that you posted but the wire fix didnt work so anyway checked all my motors and they all run straight from the battery so no power to the switch panel. In the end i figured out that the Tan coloured wire is the power wire so i linked it to another power wire under the dash and hey presto working windows again. Now i just have to figure out the electric seats and its GAME ON!!!!

Man, you ARE brilliant. It was 15 minute job, and the problem was fixed. Thanks a bunch. It was also alot cheaper than a switch and the time it would take to take the door apart.

I have a motor if you need it, only thing its just the motor the rest of the regulator assembly is not operational.
i had the same problem with my 87. however i traced the wires back to the ignition believe it or not. in jeeps the ignition has a little bar that moves back and forth as you turn the key, over time the switch gets worn and doesnt quite touch the leads together, try wiggling the key back and forth and then try the windows, works for me. i am more or less stuck with my driver window however it doesnt seem to work even when i hard wire it in. i have a bad motor.

I would start with checking your ground for the window switches
I have the same problem, except the window lock works (according to my test light).
that's *technically* a 95 (all 95 parts in 87 comanche). only driver's side windows work. all rear wiring was cut out so it's possible that I need a continous loop or something.
have another problem in my bro's 89 cherokee...everything BUT the driver's window works. I've tried everything from new switches to a new motor...can't get it to work. it works when I apply power from a battery in either direction, just not from a switch.
any ideas for that too?

I had the same power window problem on my 2000 XJ. Power window switches worked from driver seat but not from any of the passenger seats. I had a bad window lock switch. I bypassed the switch by shorting two adjacent yellow and tan leads on a connector located inside a driver side kick-panel with a paper clip. See two pictures below...
green arrow = the connector
yellow arrow = yellow lead
tan arrow = tan lead
red arrow = paper clip
Not shown in the pictures but I covered up the pin and connector with some electrical tape.
Now all window switches work fine, but of course the windows lock switch is inoperable. The switch is permanently closed (effectively with the paper clip) so all window switches work at all time. My kids are grown so no need for a lockout.

i have a 97 cherokee country. none of the power windows work. my volt meter shows that there is power to the drivers door switches but not to the fuse for the windows. how can this be and does anyone know how to fix it? i already replaced the controls in the driver door and that didn't work

My passenger window and doors locks didnt work on 91 cherokee. The problem was the wires between the drivers door going into the cabin.
Open the door, remove the rubber boot and inspect the wires.. below is how mine looked, I was amazed how many wires were broken. It has since been repaired and everything works, including the window lock.

Bumped... Windows had been acting sporadically, stopped for good 2 weeks ago. I have checked continuity to the connector behind the master switch in the door, that's all good. I have jumped the wires for the window lock switch, checked the power at the driver's side window motor connector and I get 12 V but window does not work.
It doesn't make sense that ALL the windows stop working at the same time if driver's side motor is bad. If I have power, why won't the motor operate? Is there a safety switch somewhere? The windows never worked with any door open.
96 Cherokee Classic, electric windows and locks. Of course, no A/C anymore... at least the windows are up. Any ideas?
