Default Searching for fuel economy.

I've started to drive a lot more lately 300$ in gas last month! I calculated that to be around 13mpg I need to change that cause every cent makes a difference. I was looking on ecomodder for ideas and I've gotten some. Most of my miles are highway miles at 60mph. I'm curious if any one has any ideas not driving tips either! I drive in the 1000rpm-2100rpm area and try to get it to upshift as much as possible. I know its a jeep I don't want the "it's a jeep thing" I'm not looking for much more than 15mpg.

There are so many things about a Cherokee that can add up to crappy gas milage. 1st......it has the aerodynamics of a brick (Wranglers are worse though). Tire tread and weight can be a factor in addition to air pressure. If you're doing alot of highway driving and not much off-roading, a different set of tires may be in order. I don't know the full range of sizes available but, look for light weight/low rolling resistance tires. Unsprung weight (wheels and tires) can have more of an effect on your gas milage than sprung weight (cargo weight)........just something to think about.

Tires are perfect for what I do, size is a little on the small side but they're only a year old. And I was thinking of things that people have done to the body to increase aerodynamics. The site I was on talked about a kammback, grill blocks, removing roof rack bars (I will be making a roof rack with a wind deflector on the front of it)

As hamster mentioned wheel and tire combos can kill mileage. if your just on freeway get some stock rims from craigslist and buy some 225 /75 15s. Also removing the fan and installing a electric one will help a tad bit. Removing weight always helps...even a full size spare and jack is added weight u dont need. Just make sure to keep a aaa card on you for towing if u get a flat. Ive also heard removing the doors really helps shed about 200+ pounds.

Yeah I don't like the idea of no spare or tools I always have them. Its a good idea for someone who tends to stay on the streets but I randomly get off the road at any time and go in the mountains with no way of contacting any one. I have removed the windshield wipers and threw them in the back I know it's not much but again every little counts. I was looking and a stock skid plate helps deflect wind out of suspension parts. I am lifted to high for one I used to have one but it gave me this idea (very ugly but might help)

I'm thinking that roof rack will help deflect air, then a removable spoiler thing (ugly) to make the air flow better, and a front air thing (way ugly) I'd have to make the top half plexiglass then it would just push into the receiver hitch so I can take it off. Any other suggestions are great. I also know that tire pressure affects it but I don't want to have uneven wear on my tires.

If you are serious about this, I can draw it up in CAD.

I would just need the anchor points and can go from there.

It will be to scale and adjustments can be made quickly.

Oh and the dual fan is a great idea that I have been wanting to do for quite a while now. I just don't have the knowledge on what fans (pick a part) will work I know it has to be _____cfm's between the 2 fans. Ive also been curious if no muffler and straight out the cat vs the use of my glass pack and the tail pipe would effect mileage at all.

I have that so I could do it. I don't really use anything on the computer I prefer to draw it out, measure, figure out material costs and then if I am into it I'll either draw it up or dive in I do appreciate the offer though!

Not a problem. I'm on it all day so the offer still stands in the future.

Actually does CAD have a wind tunnel type thing? The one I have is a very very basic version of cad

this one's been covered a lot. here's some links
but you need to regear or run a stock tire to have any sort of chance at getting stock gas mileage
so you're wasting your time. the best upgrade you can do for your jeep is buy 2nd car that's good on gas and DD it

Some people do the junkyard thing..u can go to almost any auto store kragen, autozone and buy new universal electric fan kits.. I bought one and it was very simple to install on another car I had. It comes with the fan ,wiring, temp sensor ,relay and switch. Basically everything u need for around 70 bucks or so. Also on the box it says what size motor it will cool. I bought one that would cool a big block 454 when I only had a 351 size engine for that car.
