On another thread I mentioned banging on the starter to get it to work.....BAD idea.
When I was checking out the service manual I just bought, I noticed that these starters have permanent magnets in them, and the motor shell isn't 3/8" thick like the starters of the old days, where we could beat on it with a BFH....

I always use a large screwdriver handle.
I just got mine started by tapping not hitting on the solinoid.

I figured it out,the starter is shot,it's full of grime and oil causing it not to engage,it will still start if I hit it really hard lol,but when I got it to spin it's pretty slow and takes a few seconds to start.I figured it would have shown signs it was going out, rather than just not start all of a sudden.

Cruiser-my solinoid ended up being shot.
Had to order a new starter/solinoid.
Got one on ebay from widautoparts1993 for $46 shipped.
Its a OEM refurb. Ill let u know how it goes.
I tried to break ( no pun) the bolt on the oil filter adapter yesterday. No go.
I will discuss in another thread.
