I installed my OHC a couple of weeks ago to my 00 with (the nerds) wiring diagram pic. (ALL OF THIS BEGAN FROM NEEDING A NEW HEADLINER AND ONLY FINDING ONE WITH THE CUT OUTS FOR OHC) wish the console was at the upullit it wouldve been $25 but after 2 weeks of no luck to ebay i went, price $265 with shipping temp sensor and harness included worth it if you cant find the rare item to begin with, anyway I pulled all the pins out of the 99 donor harness and popped them into the 00 harness end, removing the end also makes it easier to route the harness through the side of the dash also wired in an auto dimming rear view, that was tapped to the power of the computer of the console apologies for not definitely remembering the colors... but i vaguely remember (white/blk str, ignition pwr and blk ground) going to the 1&2 pin on the mirror (not the wht/blk that is not twisted with pur/brn) all the other pins on the mirror are for 3 reverse cut out turn it off when your in reverse... cool but not needed there is a manual switch on it and 4&5 are auto dim for drivers side view mirror auto dim, XJ's arent wired for any of this. Oh yeah I did have to tap ground in for the visors also since the 99 only has the red visor wire

No offense themfjuice... but that ^ was total gibberish. You need you use at least a minimum amount of punctuation. I stopped reading halfway through, and I have no idea if you posed a question or not, but if not (i.e. you are attempting to post helpful info) your efforts are applauded but totally wasted on the presentation. The good news is that there is lots of room for improvement for your second post in this forum.

Hi,
I'm going to be installing a police scanner *inside* the full size overhead console in my 01 Limited. I'm wondering if there is some 12+ power up there I can use or if tapping into it would screw anything up with the compass/temperature read out? I'd prefer to have the power turn off when ignition is turned off, so I don't forget and leave the radio on and drain the battery.
I will be replacing the headliner at the same time, so I can home run power wires if need be, but would prefer to run power to scanner from the cargo area if there is any ignition switched power I can tap into back there, and I would prefer to avoid running power down the A pillars and into or under the dash, don't really want to take half the truck apart for this project, or go through firewall into engine bay, etc.
If you've installed a CB radio up next to the console or by your visors, what did you do about running power?
Thanks!

Hi there,
I took the power of the right side plug near the circuit breakers box or you can take the cigarette lighter power. I don't think you have anything in the cargo area.
Why do you need a police scan for?

Scanning is a popular and exciting hobby for many folks, but it kinda sounds a little like you may wonder why someone would want to listen in to the police, as if only criminals would need to do that, but I assure you its not illegal or shady. I agree that they should have encrypted channels for tactical situations, but routine dispatch calls aren't a big secret if they're responding to a car accident or something like that.
I've been scanning for 20 years listening to police, fire, military aircraft, trains, and other signals. If I see a bunch of cruisers and fire trucks zoom by my house, I don't have to wait for the 11 o'clock news to see what was going on around town, I can tune in live. Its pretty exciting.
Hope that helps explain my hobby
Thanks for the tips on power locations!

There is 12v to the lights all up there, just gotta see which 2 of the 3 wires are the up there. As for interference, I'm not sure about for the compass. I know there is a calibrating procedure for it. It's something like driving in 3 circles within 10 seconds or something like that, but not sure if the scanner itself would mess with it. As for the temp sensor, that's way out in the front of the jeep near the bottom of the radiator.

So reading all this information and the info on NAXJA I think all I have to do is swap my connectors using the cart below?
Donor console, wiring, headliner with mount, visors, sensor from a 1998 XJ
All going into a 2000 sport.
Planning to do this tomorrow, so anyone for see any other issues I might face?
Thanks for all the good info.

I only have the ohc. I have 4 black wires, a white wire, and a purple wire (no tracer) I have the pin locations of the 4 place wires. Is there a cross reference for these?
I have the compass working, lights work, but I can't get the fuel related functions. I haven't bought a temp sensor, but if I get the fuel functions working I figure I'll then go ahead on the $20 for that.

wiring swap from a 1998 to a 2000 was easy with the given wiring diagram.
One note is when you have two grounds make note if they were in the top or bottom of the connector and when you rewire place them back like that.

Hello, I'm new here and I have been following these OHC installation and wiring threads on the forums for a while.
I'm in the midst of installing an OHC into my 2000 XJ. I won the thing on eBay, but it came with a harness from a 97. I have been following the wiring charts and advise that have been posted and have gotten almost all the wiring put into the 2000 end connector. The issue I have run into and have not seen anything discussing it is that the 97 harness has 2 extra wires (dark blue w/grey stripe and solid grey) that I'm unsure of what to do with.
I was wondering if anyone could help me figure out what to do with these extra wires.
My XJ does have keyless entry, but I'm not sure if these wires have anything to do with that.
Thanks.

Sorry to revive a really old post, but I'm in the midst of installing an overhead console in my 2001 XJ. The diagram from TheNerd has been extremely helpful, however, my donor wiring harness is from a 97 XJ, so I have two extra wires (like ghst32 posted, dark blue w/ gray stripe and solid gray) that I can't figure out where they go. Can anyone help?
I lucked upon several XJs and am having a blast building myself exactly what I want. I'm learning as I go and truly appreciate all the information I've found on this forum! Thank you!

I just looked up the wiring diagrams from Mitchell for both the 1997 and 2001 units. There are no wire colors of the sorts mentioned there. What pins do they go to on the connector at the console?

A lot of great information above! In the next couple of weeks, I will be installing an overhead console from a 2000 model XJ into my 1999. Currently, I am having the headliner replaced on both the headliner board and the OHC, both of which came from the 2000, along with the wiring harness (including the large connector from the donor XJ) and the OHC bracket. I'll be documenting everything in my RED Sonja build thread when complete.
