Use TheNerd's diagram - worked for me and I installed my OHC from an older model into my 2001 XJ. Thanks to him, I was able to modify the harness to work perfectly - he knows his stuff and (thankfully) is willing to share!

I did this swap a few months ago with a overhead from a 98 i believe it was into my 2000. The harness was different from the 98 as it had 1 wire for the visors intstead of 2, the solution i did for the was cut the old harness of (2000 with 2 wire for visor) soldered the positive to the positive on the harness from the 98, and put one of the washer shapped electric crimps coming off the ground side, and used the screw that holds the visor up as a ground. It works great and havent had any problems.
I also did have to change the 98 connector to my 2000 connector by popping all the pins out which was fairly easy. The harness that the whole overhead console harness plugs into has all the colored wires already on it. So if you accidentally forgot to make a diagram, you can just check the car side plug and match it all up.
As for the person who asked where the temp sensor plugs in to, pop off the front grill and its right there. just plug the sensor into the harness and your all set.

Hi there,
I installed an overhead console in my 2000. The computer comes from a 98 Grand cherokee. I plugged it and the lights work, the compass works as well but I have two remaining wires. A black and white and a purple. I tried to plug both a temp sensor but I have no reading of temp. I was wondering to where I should plug the two remaining wires. Could it be for the computer?? I still have to put the other overhead into my 99 and I have the choice. Or I put a 2000 overhead pc or the same than the other one (grand cherokee one) They have the same number of wires exept the 2000 as one more to the remote control opener circuit. I didn't use the complete harnes. I use the original plug...
Thank you very much for your help. My email: christophe_lamby@hotmail.com
Cheers!

This diagram (thx to TheNerd) did the trick for me.
Had to change the interface but all came together perfectly. As I recall, the purple (with blue?) is for temp sensor. I can pull the grill to verify if that will help - let me know...

Hello Christopher,
Thank you very much for the info. I know the purple is for the sensor and I think the other wire is black and white. Actually I will go today to advance auto to get a new Ambient Air Temp Sensor. I think the one I have is faulty. I still did not find out about plugging the computer. It will take awhile. I crazy busy flying...
I'll let you know.
Thanks again!
Christophe

I plugged a new sensor on front of the radiator and put the wires on 5 and 6. I'm sure the purple is right but not sure for the other one. Still no temp reading... I'm getting crazy with that thing!!!

I think I read that the Grand Cherokee computer might not speak the same language (not what you want to hear)- let me dig on that a little bit.
Enjoy the flying. You could be based in a domicile 1000+ miles from your family sitting on a couch for days on end waiting (hoping) for the phone to ring. Don't ask how I know. The good part is I have plenty of time to dig up stuff on the internet.

I stand corrected and that is a good thing! Don't know if this will help, but make sure you have the the correct wht/blk wire orientation. If the two are swapped, it won't work. I did find this from Naxja with tons of pictures showing some guy combining a ZJ and XJ console with minivan console parts thrown in for good measure.
Good luck!
Good luck!

how did you get the interface to work Christophor? I pullled a early 90s limited consul to put in my 97. I got all the lights to work, but not the interface. I think the the consul had a 10 pin connector, and the jeep had a 3 pin. Is there a wiring diagram to what the interface connects to?

Howdy all!!
What do you call interface? The plastic "mount" that you put the pin in? I began the work on my 99 and will install a 98 XJ pc on it and will change the "interface". with the harnes. But on my 2000 I still have the grand Cherokee and will check if I got the right wire in place.
Thanks Scooter! I'm lucky, I'm based just a hour away from home. But it takes me awhile to recover from a trans Atlantic flight...
Cheers!

I may be wrong but I think you need the BCM (Body Control Module) to get the Grand Cherokee OHC Guts to work in an XJ? According to the write up on the NAXJA thread. But, if I don't need the GC BCM I will just tie into the existing harness where the Remote Keyless board plugs in. Can anyone confirm the GC BCM is needed to get all the functions in an XJ using the GC OHC's guts?
Also does any one have the measurements of where i need to cut for mounting the rear bracket for the OHC?

Hi there,
I sent a message to zluster will see if he gives me the answer for the temp sensor. I don't need the comp info. Just to see if it's cold outside will be enough.
I used the Grand Cherokee bracket on my 2000 XJ and the original XJ on the 99. It is riveted to the cieling spar. for the grand cherokee bracket you have to drill the spar to the left and right from the center but for the XJ bracket it is riveted to the original holes. To cut the liner correctly you should deassembled the console to draw the correct holes. I pulled the ceiling out the put fatmat and I glued insolation on the ceiling. Very quiet ride...
