Gents,

Great forum, I like the support. Anyways, my ? is this.
Looks like the cherokee I am in will be under my butt for some time to come and with 160K on the stock motor I am wondering if there is anything to breath a little new, but cheap life into her. So far I have installed FIPK, and changed to a diesel grade synthetic motor oil. She is bone stock and a DD.

Have no idea when the auto trans has been changed or flushed, I've had a bad experience with that. But was thinking about changing the filter to start.

Maybe new exhaust, who knows?

Any and all comments will be appreciated.

I would change all fluids. I've had my '95 for 6 weeks now and one of the first things I did to it when I got it (after fixing the power steering that was destroyed) was to change:
Coolant, flush and fill
Oil
Trans (just drained all I could, about 4 quarts and refilled with 4 quarts new)
front and rear differential
I also put on a new belt (required as I had none when I got it) and checked all plugs and wires. They were newer and the plugs were in good shape so I did not replace them.


I still need to do the transfer case, but am considering SYE or Hack N tap so holding off on that for now.

Hey, appreciate the ONE response I have gotten so far. I understand the rest of you are out crawling or something.......

But here is an interesting update and further quandary. Happened exactly twice tonight.

Traveling down the wonderfully paved and maintained roads of San Diego/ OSide area and hit the section of an intersection that intersects two roads, kinda bumpy...... BAM complete failure of the engine and trans, very suddenly and didn't effect the lighting. Just a short, sudden loss of all power.

The first time that evening it did the same, only pulling into a gas station, left hand turn (not a full throw), complete shut down, had to coast to the pump. No I wasn't out of gas, checked that, and after making it another 60 or so miles to La Jolla, I did a semi-thorough check under the hood for shorts or anything obvious......But nothin.

Ignition short? The interruption didn't effect the lighting or stereo. Started right up after dying the first time, so I am ruling out charging system.

Any thoughts????
