Default Odd noise from front while in 4wd

I just recently got my '98 Cherokee and I popped her into 4x4 today and whenever I turn, I get s weird kind of grinding noise coming from the front. I am not real familiar with Cherokees nor am I familiar with any sort of vehicle, so I have no idea what this could be.

Any ideas? Or is it even normal?

Grinding is definitely not normal, at least in my own experience. Check to make sure your transfer case is pulled completely in to 4HI. You aren't run 4HI part time on pavement are you? Part time is for slippery surfaces only, and will bind up on pavement.

Yeah, it did jump around a bit. Maybe it wasn't really grinding, just a funny noise. Does anyone else's do that?

Thats usual for most 4wd vehicles, it will seem way more harsh on harder ground than soft.
