i have about 5 to 5.5 inches of lift in the back of my xj and i do not have a sye kit.. i have offroaded my jeep ALOT and drove it as a dd in high school... now it is just a trailer queen but i have NEVER had a problem with my driveshaft pulling out or binding up.... no tc drop in it either.. works great for my setup.. dont see a need for it because i dont go far.. if it is a dd then you will go through a u joint in the driveshaft every once in a while.. not tooo much at all tho...

well its the np 231.. and to be honest i dont really see the difference... i know that there are more binding up problems with the 231 and i would believe thats why people need it more than the 242.. also there are way more 231 tc's out there than the 242 adn the aftermarket support for the 231 is absolutely crazy.. not so much for the 242 tho.....

231 can have a full sye, 242 gets a hack n tap. i think you can rebuild the 242 to accommodate the full sye but i dont know how.

every jeep reacts differently to lift, it's just how it is. the older XJ's were able to withstand more lift and not have vibes than the newer model ones.
