The studs are 10mm, coarse thread on the case side and fine thread on the nut side. I did not measure thread pitch so I hesitate to say, but I imagine they are 1.5 coarse and 1.25 fine.

Cobra sells used case parts, and while I don't see the studs listed they will probably sell you some if you ask.

The factory studs are M10x1.54x36MM.

I replaced some studs in a 242 I was rebuilding and found some fractional studs that worked.

The M10=25/64 (3/8")

1.54mm=1/16 (thread pitch 16 TPI)

36mm=1-27/64" (1-3/8")

The factory nuts are 3/8-24", free spinning washer type nuts.

The Dorman studs are 3/8-16 x 3-24 x 2", part number 675-098

I bought the nuts at Lowes and my studs at a hardware store that carries automotive studs.

Edit: I installed my studs using Red Loctite.

Measure the stand off of the existing stud, i.e., the distance from the surface of the TC mounting flange to the end of the stud. Your replacement studs should not be less than this distance.

How much of the stud(s) are sticking out?

Can you get two jamb nuts on them, and synch them up?

Try applying heat to the aluminum case adjacent to the stud and, if you can get the nuts on, see if it will turn out.

If there's only a stub left, apply heat, and use a 6" or 8" pipe wrench on it.

probably need to drill them and use a screw extractor to pull them out

if you damage the threads on the transfer case, you'll need to install helicoil thread repair

none of this is fatal, just work

You may be able to use a stud removal/extractor tool to remove the studs that still have threads sticking out. Try an auto parts store for them.

If you are not comfortable trying to remove the studs see if you can find a machine shop or good garage near you that can do it for you.

I'm back. so I got everything hook up and running. but now when I shift to 4 hi or 4 low it doesn't eager or at least I'm not sure if it does, no light either. before I took off the transfer case 4hi was working and 4low wasn't. every time I try to engage in 4low all I would hear is grinding and no light. I'm not sure how to adjust the linkage. can anybody help me plz..

Default NV231 Linkage Adjustment

Set the parking brake, shift trans to Neutral, then shift the TC to 4L.

The range lever is on the side of the transfer case.

Where it says 'raise vehicle', you can jack the left side and support with a jack stand to give yourself more room to work.

ok I got 4hi back but not 4low. I can't go past neutral on transfer case lever. I pull it as far back as possible and shift into drive and the axles stay in neutral.
