Default fuel pump wont stop running

sorry to repost but i figured this was a better place for it..i have a 87 jeep cherokee pioneer.i changed my valve cover today and washed the bottom of the motor and the whole undercarrage and external of the jeep.after i was done i went back to the building, when i came back my fuel pump was running but the jeep was off and key was out of the ignition.what is causing the pump to continuously run?right now i have it unplugged at the rear of the jeep

Yes. The relay is supposed to only connect the pump to the battery when the switch connected to it tells it to. Think of it as if it relays the "on" signal. If your A/C relay isn't also busted this should reveal the problem.

Automatic shut down relay. Like they said change it with A/c or starter relay. Whichever is the same. If it stops running/humming when you swap them thats your problem. These relays are a dime a dozen.

Just switch the four of them around and see what happens. You can't hurt anything. Number them first with a Sharpie pen.

Or, easier yet, hook the fuel pump back up, start pulling relays til it stops running. Bingo.
