neutral saftey switch ?
I had a friend follow instructions from a site to loosen the adjusting bolt so we did and moved it and retightened so my back up lights were working a little better. My question is , since we did that I had a check engine light come on and the codes were po700/po705.Could that be related to the adjustment we did.Seems to run normal.I cleared the code hasn't come back yet.I have alot of miles 197,000.
Thanks.
Thanks.

on't know what that code means but, if you zeroed it out and it hasn't come back. Roll with it.
Did adjusting your NSS fix your problem you were adjusting for?

Back up lights didn't come on at all , now they come on if I bump the shifter since we adjusted it.I may do that whole cleaning procedure or find one from a junk yard and clean that one put it on and clean the other and keep for a spare.
Thanks.
Thanks.

What usually goes wrong with them is the factory dielectric grease gums up after years of use. Causing the springed contacts inside to stay depressed causing a no-contact situation.
They can easily be rebuilt for under $15.
There are MANY write-ups on rebuilding the NSS all over the web.
Buying a highly-overpriced new unit is not always the answer. That is unless you feel like throwing your money around.
So far I have rebuilt 3 units and I am running two of them on a daily basis, and have not had any problems.
If it falls apart....you didn't do it right.

I had the NSS go out on my daughter's '96 cherokee but unfortunately she was away at school (4-1/2hr drive) when it did. She had a friend whose uncle worked for an auto parts co who got her an OEM part at cost ($100) and we paid the local AAMCO 1 hour labor to replace it.
Now her 2000 cherokee needs NSS attention but since she's home now I'm going to try the rebuild 1st.
