@xjsnake that's a real sweet price vs 260 lol, my only question is how good is the nss for 50, it's a big price diff just wondering if the quality is just as good as the 260 one?

It would be cheap China junk. If you fix yours you have the 260 dollar one right there. I can take one apart and take pics if it would help you. Im sure google has pics too.

I've had mine for about 6 months and it's worked flawlessly.
I was concerned about the quality of it when I ordered it, but holding it up to the stock unit it looks and feels identical and when I popped it open before installing it, it looked well made inside. It's a very simple switch, it's kinda hard to mess one up if the tooling is made correctly.
The only thing that would likely fail on the aftermarket one is that the springs might not be as good but thus far I've had no problems and the springs are very easy to replace if you ever needed to.

The springs are really the Heart of it. All the ones I have fixed either had collapsed springs or cracked bodys. So if the springs are crap it wont work for long. But if your not into fixing your own junk, and xjsnake says its close to o e than buy it. Just know that stuff thats not o e is made from prints that aren't original and they cut costs manufacturing those pcs wherever they can. So there is no way the 50 dollar job is near the quality of the one you already have.

I had a problem with my 99 xj sport not always starting in park and my backup lights didn't work altho I had no fuses out.....read it was the reverse neutral safety switch...260$ at local store......tried to take it off and clean it...broke the nut off the whole thing lol fail, tried to get the old one off my 93 country cherokee, same look diff plug was willing to try it anyway.....broke the shift linkage, way rusted on there....fail, so, just before I ordered the nss on line for 200....i went junkyard style...called a few, some wouldnt sell sensor off tranny, found one that would let me take one off myself....low and behold....found one under a beat to junk jeep....felt underneath it was greasy not rusted....took it off was brand new.....brand new...couldn't beleive it, cost me a whopping 11.32$ ....putting it in was a synch....didnt have overdrive at first till I tightened the linkage but everything is all good now......so before you go buying that expensive NSS.... Check your junkyards lol

two questions on removal NSS
Started the preparation for removal and cleaning the NSS.
Managed to remove the notorious zip ties (had 3 in total) and now planning to remove the NSS.
Few questions:
- what's the wire-cable the NSS is zip tied to?
- when I take off the part (arm) that holds the two contacts+ little springs, does it need to be replaced in a certain postion, or does it slide over the shaft automatically in the right position?

I have this on my 97 and it works flawlessly. No need to spend big $ on an NSS anymore.
While you can take them off and clean the original switch, it's pretty easy to break it taking it off so this gives you a good backup plan.

XJSnake, this link is to a unit of $250. Do you have this one, or the $50 one thats also mentioned in the thread (you mentioning you dont have to spend big bucks on it)?
