As long as you can get the complete engine, tranny, t-case, linkage, shifter, harness, computer, etc, etc. from the donor rig.....well it's still gonna be labor intensive.

AS frank has said you need the wiring harness from the firewall forward. You are also going to need the tranny x-member from the donor vehicle, t-case linkage, as well as the radiator support.

IT is almost more work then worth as cheap as the renix era xj's are.

Considering the labor involved and the price of all the parts you plan to swap, you should consider just exchanging your rig for an XJ with the 6 already in. It would be a very cool learning experience, but you could put the same labor into rebuilding and restoring an XJ with the inline 6.

I was totally bumming. Saw this come up for sale ($1600) and was ready to pull
the trigger until....................the iron duck 4 cylinder..... It's an 85 but Arizona
vehicle so no rust. Aleady got 4.5" of lift on it. Just beggin for some bigger tires,
lockers, rock rails, bumpers etc. etc.

It's a clean little truck (almost too clean for what I want to use it for), but the 4
cylinder was a deal breaker.

If it would've been a 4.0 I-6 it would probably be in my driveway and getting pilaged.
