Big Bug, I'll be following this. I've been toying with the idea of putting a diesel in my 90. My 4.0 with 262K is running fine....today.

Where are you?

So you know spamming the forum is against the rules. Second is that a diesel Cherokee was never available in the states. Look in Canada or the uk

Walt, I'm confused. Are you saying that a Lesharo RV uses the same diesel engine(s) they use in Cherokees? I'm curious about finding a diesel, but am guessing you are not in the states. Don

Not true. The same engine was used in the Winnebago LeSharo as in the early XJ diesels. It was a 2.1 turbo diesel made by Renault and was indeed sold in the US.

It was a gutless POS.

Default Diesel

Hi from Spain i have owned 2 xj,s with the renault 2.1 turbo diesel and have to say they are very underpowered although quite reliable if its been looked after , now i have a 1997 2.5 td more power and quieter. I have a couple of spare engines over here, the pre 97 is probably the best bet due to wiring you will also need the ecu. At present mine is parked up due to the rke unit in the roof, i need an rke receiver and a couple of transmitters that are coed to the rke unit. regards Rob

Read my post. I said the diesel Cherokee was not in the states so asking for a Cherokee with a diesel in the northwest section was useless.
Next time make sure you read what was posted.

Hope you can forgive any hyjacking Walt,

Thanks for the info Rob, (& Cruiser), so a pre 97 2.5 might be what I'd hope to stumble upon. What's a "rke unit in the roof" ? Does it repel shait that's raining down?

Cherokees were sold in the US with the 2.1 Renault diesel. It was the same as the diesel in the LeSharos.

Well bigbug86, are you near Spain? Sounds like they would bolt up but have ECU issues, really don't know.

Thank you Rob. Unlikely I'll find a pre 97 2.5 AND it's ECU, around here! But at least I now know what I might want. (want to be able to run on pig fat, got all these bankers here). Good luck getting your door open....

Hi
How many miles on the extra engines and are they complete or will the part's of my 2.1 fit on the 2.5??, also what would it cost to have it shipped if you be willing to ship?? Also are bot the 2.1 2.5 same as far as the bolt pattern? As I stated mine is in the RV is a 2.1 J8S I don't know what's on the plate of the 2.5. I really appreciate your response, like I said I think that they are interchangeable!!
To every one else yes they put the Jeep Cherokee engines in the Lesharo RV wonder witch had it first!! surfingnow08@yahoo.com Thanks Walt

Default 2.5 engine

I'm located in Brookings Or, what you would like is a Cummings 3.9 4BT engine and you will find that it bolts up easier to anything you have, also a better engine!! I'm trying to find out if it's all possible to bolt up to trans axle, front wheel drive, the problem I have space is at a premium and if it will bolt up, motor mount's?? I think I'm going to have to make my own?? and so on. My problem is huge in trying to make it work. And the other person that that said I'm wasting my time looking for a 2.5 Turbo, I hate to tell you but there are some around!! Just a little harder to find. Thanks Walt
