No that adapter WONT work...Most of the Time for a muffler the measurment is the ID so that way it can be a slip fit and clamped.....what year is the jeep?

you can actaully get a coupling pipe thats 2"ID to 2,25"ID and it will slide over top of the stock exhaust and the cherry bomb, keeping from making a bottle neck

It's an 87 i has a 2in exhaust pipe if im not mistaken and the muffler is 2 1/4

And i figured the 2 1/8id to 2 1/8od would work because it would slip over the exhaust pipe and the muffler would slip over the other end

I've never heard of 2 1/8" exhaust adapter and I've been selling exhaust for a very long time. Assuming your exhaust is as you stated 2" you need a 2" ID to a 2.25" OD adapter.

i need to be 100% sure of size because i have to drive 25miles to pick this part up how will that adapter work?
autozone sold me a 2 1/4 id to 2in od and i matched perfectly with the size of the muffler and the pipe itself

You need to reverse that, exhaust tubing is OD and mufflers / converters, etc.. are ID. So you would need 2" ID to slide over your 2" OD pipe and 2.25" OD to slide in the nipple of your 2.25" ID muffler.
