Default Muffler Questions

Hello all, Im new to the forum but not to jeeps... I have a question, Im putting a new muffler on my 89 xj. I would love to go with a 40 series flowmaster, but I have heard that I should go with a 50 due to loss of back pressure. Is this the case? Thanks

Here: http://www.youtube.com/results?searc...J&search_type=
are some videos from XJ's with Flowmasters. Kind of give you an idea of what they sound like and what not.

i love my 40. you need the 'boom' tube on it as well. its not for looks, in fact i hate the way it looks. it sounds a lot deeper with it on. the boom tube is the thing on the end of the muffler in the first two vids.

I have a flowmaster on my 4.0 and It is nice and quiet. I'm not sure if it is a super 40 or not. It was on the jeep when I got it. If I had my choice I would go with a magnaflow. It is 2.5" from the collector back and still has the cat. It sounds good enough for me to leave it alone!

cool, thanks for the info. I looked at the videos on youtube. I like the sound of the super44. plus the new off road version is sweet. damn near bullet proof too.

I had a 40 series delta flow on my 4.3L S-10. As for back pressure, you'll be fine. In MY opinion you don't need a boom tube...unless you like them, of coarse...
