I wouldn't recommend running the engine out of gas. Gas is what cools the fuel pump and running out of fuel not only can pull some debris into the fuel system, it IS tough on the pump.

With a 3" lift and 31's I'm roughly getting 250-260 per tank in the city with a little Interstate driving mixed in. I have gotten close to 315 miles per tank if its a Interstate/highway only trip.

Your at a 14.5 percent increase in tire diameter and your speedometer reads like 17 percent too slow... So 50 turns into 60 mph! The one thing I'm not totally sure of is does that 14.5 percent increase in size throw off your mpg by same percentage. If so you'd go from 20 mpg to about 17, which sounds more accurate... But like I said, idk if thats the correct math..

Stock 2000 XJ with 30x9.5 bfg ats i get 270-290 miles when i get to E mixed city/highway, I constantly drive 52mph in town and 73mph on the highway(Dont ask me how i know) I could probably get more if i turned off a/c and drove at 65mph.

Now take a 265/75rx15 this tire is 30.7 inches tall and the revs per mile are 678.
Since both tires are turning the same revolutions at a speedometer reading of 60 mph. The 265/75rx15 would be going farther because it takes less revs to cover a mile.

i get about 240 miles a tank if its mostly highway and about 190-200 when its all city.... im stock, 235s, dyno max cat back exhaust and a roof rack with 4 lights on it and a shovel but no spare. honestly, the racks lights and shovel had almost no change on the mpgs. i think im going to change the spark plugs, wires, caps, rotor ect. and see if that will get some more mpgs. id love to get 220 city and 260 highway. oh and when i fill up i put in about 16 gallons everytime and thats from almost dead empty, the needle is bellow the "zero" mark

No, larger tires will mean that the odometer will read less miles than actually driven. The speedometer gear is in the transfer case, and is correct at say a 225/75rx15 this tire is 28.3 inches tall and the revs per mile are 735.
Now take a 265/75rx15 this tire is 30.7 inches tall and the revs per mile are 678.

Oh, and how do you adjust for this when calculating mpg? Simply multiply the logged miles by a certain percentage?
