where is the mass airflow sensor?

It is divided into several peces on an XJ. There is the MAT and the TB itself with the IAC and the TPS all together they do the job af a MAS on most systems.

Also isn't the MAP sensor apart of that equation?

k thanks guys i wanted to check them out cause there are cleaners you can use on them and it may give a little more power for cheap

Not really, but kinda sorta close. The mass airflow sensor is used to sense the density and volume of air going into the engine, along with a few other sensors as well. Jeeps use a speed density style fuel injection system. It uses the intake air temp sensor to check temperature, the map sensor to check barometric pressure, and the crank sensor to see how fast the engine is turning. The engine controller knows how much air the engine is drawing in at any given rpm and baro pressure, and uses the other sensors to complete the calculations required to run the engine efficently.

This is a old post but I'll try it anyway. How badly would this effect your gas milage?

As far as I know. Cherokee's use "speed density", speed density systems do not use a mass airflow (MAF) sensor.
