Default Lowered the seats in my XJ...

I'm 6' 2" and felt like I would be a bit more comfortable if my seat was a bit lower in my '98 XJ....so I pulled the seat, cut 1 5/8" (ish) out of the seats brackets and welded them back up...and I love it!
It was a bit of a PITA to get it all cut, welded and bolted back in...but totally worth it for me. The drop is totally noticeable, and I can actually stick my head out the window without having to duck so much. I had to cut the carpet out on the right side of the seat in order for it to sit down on the tranny hump and be able to slide.
I think the 1 5/8" I cut out is the maximum I (luckily guessed) was able to cut out of them, otherwise the seat would bottom out, probably not slide, and be a pain to bolt in.

Here's a couple pics of the cuts...

Front bracket's section that i cut out:

Rear part of the bracket, you can see the line where I cut off the middle section.

I will have to take more finished product pics as the ones I had have disappeared...until then...I hope it inspires you tall guys! Just be sure to run a good bead when welding 'em back up

At 5'5" I don't notice it. But I've had 6' freinds complain about it.

Being 5'11" I dont really feel your pain. But I have had friends complain about
the same issue. I put drag racing seats in my VW and it lowered the seat almost 3". I plan on doing the same with the XJ. Nice mod though!!

I also put a Sparco bucket in my integra, and that dropped me down a ton. Buuuut I just cant justify $$ for racing buckets in the Heep yet...

These are Drag Racing Buckets. They are 77.90 from summit. Totally worth it.

I think they are, they do fit you tight. And they lean a little but not much. If you like to lean your seat back a lot, then these are definately not the seats for you. They can be a little rough to get out of.

Default wow

I am 5'11" and I do feel your pain. I got fine in an XJ, if I slouch. But I'd I set straight the way I sit in my TJ then I'm looking straight out of the top of the windshield and just barely not touching the roof. If I hit a bump forget about it. I'm hitting m my head. I have no idea why jeep set this up this way. There is tons of head ton in my TJ and I look through the center of the glass. That is the way it is supposed to be. I am doing this mod. Thank you.

Why not just sit in the back seat? YOU don't need the front seat.

Two door XJ would be perfect for that

Bringing an old thread back to life, that is EXACTLY the solution I've had in mind.

I'm 6'5", and need all the room I can get!

I wonder if you could whack on the transmission tunnel a bit and get it even lower?

This is exactly what I was looking for! Can you post "after " pics of the bracket?
