What years?

The '96 (or '97) axles shafts will have the larger u-joints.

Other than that upgrade there both equal in strength.

Yep should be.

There is alot of different talk as to when the u-joints were upgraded.

I know TJ's started out in '97 with the larger ones and the YJ got them in '95 but as for the XJ I've been told it was either '96 or '97.

Hope all this helps you out..

The 2000 is either not an axle from a 2000 or its a low pinion. 2000 and 2001 were low pinions. I am almost positive 96-01 had the larger u-joint.

Early 2000's had the High Pinion it was mid year that they changed. I've looked at many 2000's that were 100% stock and had the high pinion.

Seems after Chrysler got there hands in the mix of Jeep things got really hard to track for sure.

Oh alright, I've never seen a 2000 with a high pinion or read that it switched mid year like the 8.25 did.

297X u-joints were introduced in ABS equipped XJ's in 91 and they can also be found in ZJ's as well.

FWIW, the ABS tone rings do not need to be removed for non-ABS applications.

Wasn't the 297 joint replaced with the stronger 760 joint in 96 or 97?? I have XJ shafts from a 98 in my 97ZJ and they have the 760 joint. When getting shafts from IRO, they recommend replacing the 297 with the stronger 760 joint.
