Default Loud fuel pump. How long left?

Hello everyone. Long story short today the fuel pump in my 1993 XJ started making a LOT louder humming. The pump is only 2 years old but was a decent one. Bypassed the resistor and changed the fuel filter then topped off the fuel with some Lucas fuel injector cleaner/lubricant added. Still loud. Other than that drives fine.

My only concern is I have to drive to Virginia tomorrow and take some people to the airport. Maybe 150 miles total for the day. Should I be paranoid and rent a car or could this thing run with the loud pump for awhile yet? Thanks

Sounds like what happened to me last year. My pump got real loud one day out of nowhere. Next day it was toast

If anyone is interested my fuel pump became quiet again. Not sure if changing the filter helped or dumping in a higher than suggested quantity of the Lucas fuel system cleaner-cylinder lubricant got to something or wire brushing the connections for the resistor, but after a days driving it just went back to normal pump volume and has stayed there since

Time to schedule a replacement, before you find yourself stranded.

"Increasing fuel pump noise" is almost always a symptom of future failure. I've seen it more times than I have fingers and toes. When is it going to fail? Who knows. You feel lucky?
