Default Looking at an XJ to buy

Hello all! New here. Checking out a 1998 Cherokee 2 door sport, 4.0L, 5 speed. 140k miles.

He's asking $2650

Wondering if any of you have any ideas on what to use to possibly cover this dent?

Thought about using some black diamond plate, just wanting a good looking cheap way to cover.

It's not like the rest of the jeep is mint, I would leave or. Or start playing with fiber glass and bondo.

Pull the dent out.
Buy a New hatch at the jy.
Leave it like that.
4th and extra ****ty option:fill it and paint over it with color matching paint from automotivetouchup.

That isn't a defect on an XJ, it's a customization

if it doesn't affect the hatch opening or closing then i'd just leave it.

It will be better if you gift it to a poor man.

Dude, that's a cool XJ. It's a 2 door, which is always rad, and it has lower miles than most. It's also 4x4, 5 speed, and has the 4.0... I say buy it! Don't even worry about that dent.

Agreed. 140k 4.0 2dr 5 spd for under 3k is a steal.

Check for wobble, though!!!!

If it has it, it's not the end of the world, but it's something you need to be aware of before getting it. Try as best as you can to get it going 55-60 on the highway if you can test drive it, especially around some curves.

Is that a dealbreaker? Hell no, it's a bargaining chip - and possibly a $500-600 chip at that. I'll say that about any Jeep.

I told him I want it, he is waiting to get the title back. I think he had a lien on it. I really like it so far. Haven't driven it yet.

The windshield is cracked, and the passenger side window motor is bad. No big deal though. Brand new Hankook M/S tires. I'll keep you guys posted. Really excited. In the meantime, I'm going to sell my Sonoma. Thanks guys!

Some states require insurance companies to replace windshields for free once a year.

Like kingfisher said check for rust

Good call.
Rich3, if you are new to XJ's, this isn't the standard 'look for rust' warning that goes with all used car purchases. XJ's have a particularly bad problem with the floor pans. Check the frame rails and spring mount areas too.

Going to look at it some time this week. Still haven't seen it. Been waiting to hear back from him.

It's 200 miles from here, kind of nervous it's going to look worse in person.

Hope I like it, can't wait to start tinkering.

Been wanting an XJ for a long time.

I'll post better pictures when I see it. Super pumped!
